Had more orientation today and found out where i live ( un pocito lejo, about 30 minutes walk, this is saying a lot because granada is a small town ) and explored some more around town. Later on we took a "touristy tour" to the Albaycin and Sacramonte, which are neighborhoods within the city. The Albaycin and Sacramonte are up on the mountains, a lot of gitanos ( gypsies ) live in the Albaycin but there are also areas with affluent populations. The Sacramontes are where the cuevas (caves houses ) reside. The Albacin was the Muslin quarters of town and there are still many Muslim influences in the area. Twas a majestic tour and view of the place, the walk up the mountain did this body some good. Later that night we had group dinner, and twas then i had my first taste of paella, divine. There began the celebration of Abby's birthday as well. Afterwards, we went to various bars for tapas & such then came back to the hostel to continue the night. twas grande.
Views from the Albacin
Most people couldn't read back in the days so symbols were utilized to
express certain ideas and names.
This gate represents Isabel and Fernando. The reason was explained but I think
that sufficient lol. I must have missed the information on why this gate was here.... the tour
was all in Spanish and our tour guide took no mercy on our lack of knowledge on colloquial terms :/
Our First view of the Alhambra. BIll Clinton stated it was the most beautiful view in Spain,
and the most beautiful site he had ever seen, during sunset, when he studied
abroad in his early years
View the city Walls up ahead .
Only took about 20 mins to get up there.
With Shortcuts of course
En el Sacromonte
Granada is known to have random graffiti everywhere.
Some think it destroys the city, i appreciate it as an artwork
of protest and culture.
Kinda dug this piece.
La noche antes de cumpleanos
These two had the place jamming with their impromptu rap & beatbox. Bueno
