...The journey to Granada was short, only about 8 hrs from Chicago to Madrid, and then another hour plane to Granada. Upon arrival , we were transported to Hostel Atenas, were we were to stay until Saturday, when our host families would come pick us up. As soon as I arrived in Granada and unpacked, I was invited by some members in our group to go explore, por su puesto ! Abby, Molly, and another Abby & I went for a late lunch ( 4 o clock ) and the only place open and resonable was a chinese restaurant. 4 oclock is around siesta time so they were closing soon, but they allowed us to enter. I really enjoyed my company for our first meal, & the waiter was so sweet, dealing with our crippled attempt at spanish. After the meal we were giving complimentary shots & with heightened spirits we headed back to the hostel. Our plan was to go out that night for some tapas, but seeing as how i didn´t sleep for almost 3 days, passing out was imminent.
Thurs. 13 The next day we had orientation the morning, then afterwards abby & i and some of the boys went for lunch. The group here in granada is huge because it is a mixture of students from the University of Illinois, University of Michigan, and University of Madison, Wisconsin. I believe there are almost 70 students. Lunch was grande. It is the biggest meal of the day so it entailed salad, vino, the meal, dessert, and coffee, usally but it can be more than this. After lunch we went on a tour of important places with our instructor, then i came back took a hostel and later on went out with tapas with a group then afterwards a bonding session at the hostel. I love everyone in our group !! I was a little worried because I am the only black girl, and i know there is a small percentage of minorities in spain ( I´ve seen only one other black girl since I´ve been here ) but seriously that was such an unnecessary worry.
